Caveat

A warning on a title that a third party might have some interest or right in the property.

A Latin term for 'beware,' a caveat can be registered on a title to notify the world of a lender's interest without having a formal mortgage legally registered. Generally used for short term loans, bridging finance, etc. A caveat does not have the same legal strength as a mortgage.
