Good Question!
Original page material reproduced with permission from Dorien Forster [1]
When buying property of any kind (residential, commercial) it is a good idea to ask the seller (whether agent or private seller) the following question;
"Is there anything else about the property and its immediate environs that I should know and which could influence my buying decision?"
You never know what issues this property may have that you just cannot see by looking at it;
- Hostile neighbours opposed to tenants of any sort
- Council plans for new roads changes
- Historical Buildings protection policies
- Electricity Pylons proposed nearby
- Prone to flooding
- Drug trafficking close by
- Previous murder in the house. (It's history may make it hard to rent)
- Etc., etc
If you are buying through an agent and you know this was not the listing agent I would ask them to check with the listing agent also to be sure that they are asked the same question.
If you are dealing with private owners and you ask this question, don't just listen to what they say but carefully watch the body language of all the people who live there.
If you are a very organised person, it may even pay to make a note in the file as to when and who you asked this question.
